In a Bind.....oops

Well I got the old 700r4 out today...put the new old one in..new stall....got it all hooked up and bolted in...went to tighten the converter and things were not right....about 1/8 to 3/16 out at the bottom..the tranny did not sit all the way forward . I guess the converter slipped forward...if anyone knows a fix other than dropping it all again., please let me know....heck any pointers would be helpful...Ive seen this happen , but the first time for me

You COULD slide the tranny back and put the converter in
right, but if you put a lot of torque on the bellhousing bolts,
the pump could be damaged. Dropping the tranny to
inspect the pump might save time and money

Yeah, Im just sick...brand new 3000 converter. We did torque the bolts pretty good. What should I look for as signs of damage? cant move the tranny veryfar without un hooking just about everything anyway...Ill give it a good looking over, Im just not real sure what to look for.

one thing that might help is we used no air tools....I'm pulling it back out tomorrow after work..

Glad to hear you didn't try to force the flywheel-to-TC bolts in, and started the motor.. then things would've really been damaged! That happened when I put my trans up, but I noticed before I got any bellhousing bolts in. The TC was mashed hard against the flywheel. I had to lower it down, just enough to get it away from the engine.. then I spun the TC until it engaged BOTH sets of the input shaft's splines. Then when I put it back up, I had that inch of clearance between the TC and flywheel... just slid the TC forward and put the bolts in. Good luck, hope nothing's damaged!

loosen the bellhousing bolts enough to gain some clearance. Then pry the bell housing back while spinning the converter and pushing it to the tranny. there are 2 sets of splines to engage as well as the pump drive ( the 2 cutouts on the converter snout ). you will know when its all the way back because you won't be able to get even a finger in the space. Bolt it up and go. It's less work than pulling it out. you'll know if its broken.

well I got it put in...I just loosened up the bolts as said above..pryed the case and turned the tc on..whew! But...now I have to pull the servo pack and reassemble with vasoline...first and reverse are slipping as well as the 1-2 shift..does that sound about right for the servo hanging up? May sound like a stupid question, but how should my high stall be acting? Will it also stall higher in reverse?

What brand of stall do you have? I dont know a lot about them but know that some slip more at lower rmps than others. I would think that it might stall higher in reverse because the gearing is different. Someone else might have some better answers though.

Thanks for the reply...Im not sure what the heck is wrong. I know the vette servo is hanging up...anybody know if that would also affect the reverse gear...?
