high stall lock-up converter?

Is it true that a high stall lock-up converter has no negative affect
on daily driving?

No, it still revs up pretty high until you get moving in 4th and the converter locks. Alot of people I asked don't really like a high stall and lock-up. It really beats the hell out of the lock up clutches so get a high quality TC if you plan on doing this.

a high stall converter lock up or not generates a lot more heat, and heat kills transmissions.

I was skeptical at first also, going from a stock TQ stall to a 2400rpm stall. I put an ACT 9.5" 2400 in, and it runs great. If your concerned about losing gas mileage, you will lose a small amount if you do alot of city driving and run hard. On the highway though, once the TCC locks up you get the same gas mileage as before.

On my Probuilt tranny, when I first startup, it slips a little more over stock until the tranny comes up to temp. After that it runs the same at light throttle(like in stop and go traffic). The nice thing about it is my tranny will shift like a cadillac unless I get on it and the shifts firm up. When it does firm up I can chirp 2nd gear.

Bottomline for me is that it drives about the same(stock 5.7L engine setup) except for the extra small amount of gas I need at first to get rolling.

I kinda regreted it in the beginning, but now that I know I can have about the same gas mileage and more torque when I need it, its great. Plus the smaller TQ size isnt as harsh on the driveline.

If you do plan on installing one, make sure you add an extra tranny cooler.

BTW- I have a strip/street tranny, so my experience may not apply to you.
