Stock Stall Converter ratings
Stock Stall Converter ratings
I was just wondering if anybody knows the "stall range" of the stock converters in our cars. I'm going to get a TCI one before the end of the year and am thinking about a 2500rpm stall one. would this be to high for going down the highway at like 2100rpm? is the stall only in first gear or all of em? thanks

man your car is perfect man. mine isn't near as nice as yours. mine has been vandalized 4 times though, and they hit all the major focal points too. oh well, I dont think thestall converter is at 2000 though, I would guess like 1300 or so. just a guess through from racing. and I have a car w/ a 2500rpm stall converter and you can "feel" when it locks up. so thats why I say 1300rpm. but I"m jsut guessing

Stall rating depends on how much torque is put into the converter. The same converter will stall at different speeds behind different engines.
Typical stall speed of a factory converter is 1200-1500 rpm

Then i was way off..lol 1300 is low, damn factory. Thanks 87transam, but that sucks about yours, life does some **** to us somtimes, oh well. So 2500-3000 would still be good to get.

I think alot of it depends on your rear end ratio and cam. At least when I bought my 9.5" ACT 2400rpm TC from Dana at Probuilt thats what he asked along with a few other things. My engine is a 5.7L stock with 3.42 rear ratio. It takes a little more pedal to get going over stock, but once you punch it it really wakes up everything. As far as highway driving, you wont loose any gas mileage once the TCC locks.
