Tranny Service Questions....

First of all does my 84 15th Annv. have the 200 or the 700 tranny? I've heard that both were avilable that year.

Next, the car sat not moving for 6-8 years in a dirt lot. I'm going to of course adjust the TV cable, change the filter and fluid but what could I use to clean all of the old gunked up tranny fluid out of everywhere like the torque converter and the valve body? Is there like a drive clean type of tranny fluid?

There shouldn't be any "gunked up" fluid in there. Inside a transmission is one of the cleanest parts of the car, because of the detergents used in ATF, providing the tranny hasn't taken a crap, they can get nasty if the clutches are shot, but for the most part, they are usually pretty clean.

The only way to remove all the "old" fluid, is to have the transmission flushed. There are places out there that have machines that install inline to the cooler and will cycle clean fluid through the Torque Converter and the rest of the trans.

I think they usually run about $80-100

Highly reccomended. It gets ALL the fluid out. A 700R-4 holds 11 quarts of ATF. Dropping the pan ony removes 5 quarts. Thats less than 50%.

If it's a 3 speed you have a 200. If it's a 4 speed (ie has o/drive) then it's a 700.
