How much HP do you think a t-56 with heavy duty clutch can take? i plan on building another camaro soon with either a 383 or 400/T-56 combo...

I think torque plays a bigger factor as far as trannies go. A '93 T-56 can handle around 400 ft-lbs, while '94-up can withstand 450 ft-lbs.

A 94 - 97 T-56 is rated at about 450hp/450ft lbs torque. I'm pushing a little over that with my combo with no problems. A '93 T-56 is rated at a little less than above specs but it has a steeper first gear and better over all gear ratio's. I would'nt recommend using a LS-1 T-56 unless you are swapping in an LS-1. It's the torque that will kill a tranny faster, just keep that in mind. Hope this helps.
