might as well go posi
my pinion bearing is shot. so i have to take apart my whole diff to change it. so i might as well put in the SLP posi right? ill only need gears and a installation kit right. does the kit come with the pinion bearing?
should i do this or just change the bearing?
how hard is it to change it.

Well if you hav ea auto L03, odds are you have a 2.73 or 3.08 gear.... your gears won't work on the SLP unit, at least unless you use a ring gear spacer.
Define "hard". For some people, swapping a R&P is unattainable; for some others, it's an afternoon's easy work, except for all the climbing under the car.
The easiest way I know to do it for a typical sort of guy would be to get the kit (Ratech or whoever) with bearings and all the shims; a Ratech 4111 "crush sleeve eliminator", which allows you to take the whole thing apart as many times as you want; and a micrometer to measure the shims. If you re-use your current (crappy) gears, you can get the pinion head bearing presesd off, just stick the .035" pinion shim in there and put the new bearing on, select the "eliminator" shims that give you the correct preload, and go from there.

I complete swap kit ($80-100) has all the bearings you'll need except maybe the wheel bearings.
You might only need a minor kit for around 30 bucks, that doesn't include carrier bearing. Not sure if a new aftermarket carrier comes with bearings or not.
Oh boy, your going to need a bearing seperator to get that pinion bearing off!!! Norterntools has them from 70-170 bucks -- better yet get a shop to do it!!!
Listen to 'RB83L69' about the crush sleeve eliminator, cause I have a bad *** impact wrench, and could not apply enough force to crush the bastard! I'm getting one for sure !!!
I personaly like the Auburn carriers. There Pro series are hard to beat...($300 / $400 pro)

i made a "special tool" for crush sleeves, 1" CRsteel wth a 3/4 drive adapter welded on it. found out 3 feet isn't long enought, i slip a 3' piece of pipe over it and it still takes a lot to get the correct preload. you'll need another "special tool" to hold the pinion yoke while you tighten it, mine is a piece of 1/4" x 3" x 36" steel. i transferd the bolt patter from the yoke and drilled 4 holes for bolts and found the center and used a hole saw and made a hole for a 3/4 drive socket to fit in.

300-400 bucks now thats kinda costly. What do ya'll think about pulling a posi or limited slip out of a junk yard? I dont know which my 89 Bird came with. Mosty cause I'm to lazy to do the research but when I make a sharp turn the tires squeek and when I burn out there are two black marks so for now thats good enough traction for me.

Good Luck, I spent Saturday looking for a posi, & came up empty.
One yard wanted 300 bucks! I laughed all the way back to the car.
At a you pull it, they would of wanted 40 bucks, but after looking at twenty plus S10, Camaros, & Firebirds...NODDA...
Again I was looking for the tag on the cover. On the Camaro/Firebirds I checked the axle code.
One yard would only sale the whole damn axle.
You might have better luck in Texas!!! Don't even bother with Denver, were fresh out???

BTW: I just picked up that solid sleeve for $17.99 over @ Summit Racing...
If you what to make your installation go smoother, than **** the crush sleeve (sorry ede)... I mean -- I got an impact wrench that will brake lug nuts!!! Didn't even put a dent in that sleeve.
At least I'm not reusing the old one - right
