I bought a 87 700r4..it has an electric speedo sensor. My car is equiped for the mechanical. Can I just swap the tailshaft housing and mechanical gear from a 84 700r4?

Yes, but dont go the other way and try and use the electic speed sensor. My situation is the total opposite. I have a electic speedometer and a gear driven speedo gear. I put in a eletric speedo gear and if its pluged in and I go 10MPH the speedo jumps up to 120 then kills the engine. Explain that.....I cant I'm just going to autometer to get mechanical speedo equitment. As far as the correct gear I dont know which one you need but just be aware that there is more than 1. Call some trans shops and speedo shops and see if they can look that up by you telling them where the Trans came from and where the speedo came from. also search www.google.com for speedo shops and trans shops near you. This way you can get their phone #.

dude thats easy, your govenor is at 120, so your engine shuts itself off cuz it thinks its going that speed

That could be, but if your really going 120 down the highway and your governor kicks in, it's supposed to shut your engine off while your driving? I thought it would just shutoff the fuel.
