you'll need a clutch alignment tool. a lot of the clutch kits comes with a plastic one. do the clutch, throw out bearing, preasure plate and pilot bearing. you'll need a puller for the pilot bearing.

Get the roller pilot bearing instead of the stock bushing.
Moroso makes them (among others).
Moroso Part# 41100, $14.95 at Summit.

get a pilot bearing puller and a slide hammer. i got the tools from auto zone by just putting down a deposit, 40 bucks. the puller didnt fit into my pilot bearing but luckily for me it was so worn that it just fell out. but your going to need the slide hammer to help pull it out and install the new one.. i just did all this last weekend and the only problems i ran into was loosening the trans bolts and then getting the trans back in. tricky lining it up right. your gonna need an angle attachment to get to the clutch cover bolts and you probably gonna want to replace the clutch fork and clutch fork ball stud if it looks worn. good luck and have plenty of beer on hand..

pilot bearing/bushing

If it's a pilot bushing you do not need a puller. Insert some white grease with your finger behind the pilot bushing then take an alignment tool or something of the same size as the inside diameter of the bushing and tap it in the hole. The force of the grease will push the bushing/bearing out. I've changed many manual trans and never needed a puller or a slide hammer.

I'm curious here. How can you tell if the pilot bearing needs to be replaced? Would it whine?

I make a rule when replacing a clutch to always replace the pilot bearing/bushing. It's a non-expensive item that is a vital component in the clutch system.

I know it should be replaced when replacing the clutch as a sort of preventative maintenance. The reason I ask is because since my tranny swap, I now have a whine. It gets louder when I press the clutch pedal, but it also whines a bit without depressing the pedal unless I'm at a low rpm. At around 1700 rpm and up, it whines. I've been meaning to replace the throwout and pilot bearings, but I haven't had time. The pilot bearing is new, but the throwout bearing was used (T56, so its like $100).

Anyway, I plan on replacing both just to be safe, but do these sypmtoms sound like the throwout bearing...or the pilot?

Sounds to me like it's the throwout bearing.

Sure sounds like the throwout bearing to me as well. It might be that the bearing is making contact when it's not intended to. First try to adjust the clutch fork so the bearing is farther away from the disc. See if that works. Why would you use a used throwout bearing? I think you said they were 100.00 But if you have the 10.5 inch clutch you can buy a new pressure plate clutch disc throwout bearing and pilot bushing for 150.00

Your better getting all new parts instead of rebuilt considering the amount of work that is involved.
