i have a t-5 and need new tranny, wut way to go??
ok guys i have a t-5 behind the setup i have in my sig and i need a stronger tranny so i can start doin wut i wunt with this car. now i don't have 2 grand to get a tremec or a t-56 and i don't know if a 4-speed would be possible. ok now keep in mind i woudl liek to do this for at the most 1300, now coudl i get say a t-10 and put that in or no?i mean if i have to do alot of work no big deal. work is better then 2000 bucks. now with a 4-speed i woudl need a bellhousing correct. and wut about crossmember, driveshaft, clutch linkage etc... thanks guys. cause i feel liek a pusssy with a 13 secoudn car that i can't beat on cause GM doesn;t know how to build a damn car right
Dont underestimate the T5. It was manufactured by Bog N Warner, so you know its a good build. Both Ford and Chevy used them on Maros and Stangs. Its underated. Its a strong tranz.
What? The max torque rating on that trans is 300 ft-lbs (WC T5). The LB9 is right at that amount. L03s grenade these trannies. I drove my TBI'd 350 hard ONCE in front of a T5 and the damn tranny started groaning and begging for mercy. Sure its a good reliable unit if you don't beat on it (power shift, high RPM clutch dumps, etc) but who in this community doesn't want to do that. As far as performance goes the T5 isn't worth jack. Don't abuse it and it will last, but since you are looking for a tranny that you can abuse I'd look elsewhere.
You can do the Super T10 swap, it will bolt right up to the bellhousing.
The yoke is different and probably the drive shaft lenght too.
You will need to get a torqu arm that doesn't mount to the tailshaft like a Spohn, and he can put the right size mount on it when you order it, but then you getting more expensive, but any other tranny you go will have the same issue
