700r4 Modifications

I have a 700r4 that is really good shape. I just put in a 383 stroker and it shifts fine when I am not trying to hot rod it. When I do hot rod it , it shifts fine no hard shifts it just doesnt shift when it needs to. I am thinking about putting in a B&M shift kit so that I could shift when I want it to or drop it down a gear to take off real quick. That is the closest thing I can think of doing w/o putting in a 5-speed. What is yall's thoughts on this. I am not wanting to spend tons of money otherwise I would just put in a 5-speed. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Danny

The B&M kit will not give you the results your looking for. Either go with the governer calibration kit mentioned above and remove the MTV upshift spring "second small valve on the passenger side front " or get a TG shift kit.

Probuilt sells the kits cheap I assume you just want the Jr shift kit. The B&M Shift Improver kit only makes the car shift harder by boosting the line pressure and limiting accumulator travel. None of these shift kits will change your normal shift points, thats done through the governer calibration kit. Removing the MTV upshift spring will delete the forced 1-2 shift and it can be done when changing the fluid for free.

You could install one of my Trans-Go Performance Shift kits (with accumulation) along with the Corvette servo, and both large boost valves. Depending on what year you are trying to install this into?, and what WOT shift rpm are you trying to obtain? you might need to change governor along with the shift timing springs. Let me know?

Does anyone have a pic of the valve body which clearly identifies the MTV? I don't want to remove the wrong one! ;-)
Thanks,
Ben.

Ok, here is a pic of the valve body. Which spring do we need to remove to disable the forced 1-2 shift?

hey guys I got a coulple of questions about the governer recalibration kit. All it does is adjust your shift points correct? Can you set the point where you want it too shift. How hard is it to install? I just bought my car, and shifts at about 1500 rpms to high, so I correct with this kit? As you cant tell I don't know alot about transmissions. any help?

it means 'to the top' so the post goes back to the top of the list where someone who can answer the query might see it!

Whoops, looks like i posted the wrong pic..
I think the spring we must remove in this pic is '304 - spring, tv modulator upshift valve'. Anybody with knowledge in this area who can confirm this?

Ok, I have removed the spring labelled 304 (MTV)in the above drawing and I still have a forced 1-2 shift. In fact, as far as I can tell, the trans doesn't behave any differently!!! Can one of the trans experts here tell me where I have gone wrong??
Thanks,
Ben.

Eric, the shift points are determined by both the Governor and the TV cable. It may be just the TV cable needing adjustment, especially if the trans shifts right after you let off the gas. I would tend to think that you just need your cable adjusted. I posted a quote a little while ago. Here's a link to it: https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...hreadid=171302

I would reccomend trying this first, it is much simpler, and it is free of cost to do it!

Good luck!
