Tranny vibes and thunk noise.....
Okay here's one for you pro's.... any help is greatly appreciated! I have a '91 Z28 that I recently purchased with "some" mods done to it. The owner I bought the car from supplied me with the reciepts of the tranny rebuild ($1500+)and explained to me that it had a 2400rpm stall convertor, Vette servo, And a shift kit, along with the upgraded innards. The car has always shifted hard and made a "thunk" when going into 3rd gear. Is this normal?
I broke the trans mount 2 months after having the car and was given what looked to be a ES trans mount. I installed it with the factory hardware and a home depot grade 8 bolt and washer for the center mounting point. Now I have an emmence vibe in the car and it shifts stranger than before. Are the angles off? Maybe I installed it wrong? I heard that I can stack a 1/4" washer's between the crossmember and body to bring it back to normal, or replace it with a Prothane unit. What should I do?
Now back to the angle.... I installed a Prothane torque arm mount and removed the crossmember to do this. Could I have missaligned when reassembling? Is there a way to set angle or bring it to a tranny shop? If I bring it to a shop how much will they charge? (estimated).
Back to the 3rd gear thunk.... It shudders now when it thunks upon downshifting. Did I hurt something internal to the trans already? Should I change the tranny fluid? If so what should I use? I thought about using B&M trick shift, but the trans has about 35,000 miles on it. Will this fluid hurt it. If so what should I use?
The car was smooth when I bought it, I'm really afraid I might of ruined a expensive trans. Please help!!!!!
