Is it suppose to do that?

I need to know if this is normal or is something wrong with my gear box. Its a 700r4. When the stick is in the DRIVE position letting the gas go feels like its in neutral, but when the stick is on the 3-rd gear position letting the gas go feels like in a manual transmission car (stronger deacceleration)!

Thanks for any help!

that's normal... when u let off the gas in D it's most likely in OD, so it barely has any RPMs, it 3'rd it'll be at higher rpms ans slow you down.

Actually I think it has something to do with there being no overrun clutch when the manual shaft is in OD so there's no engine braking regardless of what gear the transmission is actually in.

Yes, what Aperion said. DRIVE is 3rd gear. I belive you are refering to OverDrive. When its in Overdrive, there is no engine-braking. If you put it down into Drive, 2nd, or 1st, the overrun clutches apply (to prevent forward sprag overrun) and cause engine braking.

So, the engine breaking isnt doing any harm to the tranny?
