I put in a 2nd 700r4 built by the same guy and I got to put about 150 miles on it before the 3-4's started slipping. It was like night and day too. On the way to work, it was holding just fine but on the way home, it would just rev up if I gave it more then about 20% throttle while in 3rd or 4th. Is there anything that could cause this besides the 3-4 clutch pack? I suspect not but don't know for sure since I've hardly put any miles on it. I know the TV cable was adjusted properly the whole time cause I didn't want to lose another tranny from misadjustment of the TV and can't think of anything that I may have setup wrong when I installed it. I don't have a whole lot of confidence in this guy anymore and I don't think the trans had all the stuff that he claimed that it did. He said that it had "the vette servo, extra clutches, and the oversized boost valve" and a couple other things that I probably forgot. But it still wouldn't even chirp second like my original trans would with the 305 and the manual 1-2 shift took forever and was not tight at all. And by the way, I only payed 675 bucks for the tranny. I'm thinking it was that cheap cause it was probably filled with inferior parts? Any comments or suggestions would be great. And I plan on rebuilding it myself so any suggestions as far as good PERFORMANCE rebuild kits would be great......and by the way...I love "neck snapping" shifts

I'm very curious as to why the 3-4 clutches only lasted 150 miles. Thats probably the worst track record I have seen yet!

Its possible that he just used some sorry clutches, or maybe he rolled or cut a piston seal when installing (easy to do if you don't have the right tools or are a dimwit). I have seen a few low mileage vehicles (<20,000 miles) burn up the 3-4 clutches due to a leaking input housing. When you air check (if you do) the 3-4 clutches, put some ATF where the thrust bearing/washer would sit then air check them. If you see bubbles pop up around the input shaft, the housing is junk.

The transgo kit will help prolong the life of the 3-4 clutches, but with only 150 miles, more than likely it was an assembly error.

 

is the face that I made last night when I couldn't do much more then 45mph without over revving. I really think it was a assembly error also. I think i know what you're talking about with a leaking input housing but I will make sure that I know what your talking about before I even take the trans apart. I plan on studying a 700r4 tech manual for a couple days before I even crack into the tranny. And I'm gonna check and see if it even has any of the stuff that the guy said that it did, and if it doesn't.....I don't even wanna think about what I'm gonna say to that guy.
