axle code help

hey guys i have a 10 bolt rear sittin in my yeard that i took out and put a 9-bolt in cause i wunted the posi, well anyways today i went out to have a look at the 10-bolt and i took the numbers off it and looked in my haynes manul and it said it was a 3:23 posi rear from 88-89. now i don;t think it was a posi cause it never even did a posi burn out one or any signs of a posi thats warn out. now here are the numbers,6HJ Z 1841 also is this a 28 spline rear? thanks

my book says the same. you could take the cover off to see if its a posi. i think that 89 was the year it could be either one a 26 or 28

Open diff just has gears. A posi will have clutches.

I see 6HJ as 1988 and 1989. 3.23 gears, Posi. Personally I don't think it will have 28 spline axles.

well from what little i know about them a posi would have the springs and clutches in there. a onelegger would have just the spider gears. look in a jegs or summit or go to auburns website and see if thats what you have.
