will this kit hold up to a 350-400hp motor?
1987 - 1993 Master Kit includes:
Gaskets, seals and sealing ring kit.
Red Eagle friction clutch kit
With Kolene Steels clutch kit
This kit includes a 3/4 PowerPack friction & steel kit !!
3/4 PowerPack includes: 9 Red Eagle .062" frictions, 8 Kolene steels .076", 2 standard Kolene steels, 1 top backing plate, 1 custom sized snap ring. * Should not be installed in regular duty applications, due to the shorter and significantly firmer shifts.

I could go on and on about things that could go bad, and I would still miss some items....
I assume you want to rebuild the tranny in your '84? Not a very good starting point to begin with, but if you must use it, it will suffice. you'll want to start with the TransGo reprogramming kit. Installing the hi-po 3-4 kit will help, but the transgo should make it last even longer, along with fix other problems, like sticking throttle valve, etc...
Then you have the foward sprag. The '84 700's had the old 26 element sprag, which has been long replaced with the 28 element. And now, the 29 element sprag is the standard.
The reaction shell (aka "sunshell") can also be a weak link, especially if you have a "neck-snapping" shift. There are different versions of this part as well.
I also replace all the torrington bearings. I have seen to many parts get wiped out from fatigued bearings, I don't risk re-using them.
Probably a good time to get a new reaction planetary. they are fairly cheap, and yours being as old as it is, probably does not have the oil slinger on the back of it. This has also become the "standard". I don't thing they even make the non-slingered reaction planetary any more. Not to mention, overtime, the seal input-to-output shaft seal gets real brittle and breaks and will starve the planetary for lubrication (even worse if it doesn't have the slinger) and can fatigue that as well.
My fingers are getting tired from typing, but moral of the story is, don't expect to spend $50 on a rebuild. If you want to do it yourself, get a kit from a reputable institution that has experience in long lasting, high performance 700R-4s (use there R&D to your advantage), or simply buy one of there transmissions. Places like www.pro-built.net can sell you a decent kit, or sell you the whole tranny.
