I've been having trouble with the tranny on my 86 bird. Im having this prob where at 10 mph it feels like it downshifts into a lower gear but its in first, to put it better, it feels like its hitting the brakes on its own. Also it makes these weird noises like a metal clanging and grindin when i accelerate from a stop or it will jump into drive from park. Now it wont shift into neutral,reverse, or park. So the keys are stuck in the ignition since it wont go into park and i cant even start it up. About a month ago i had it in a tranny shop to replace the torque converter bolts and do a tranny check. They said everything was fine, but now Im stuck with this prob. Any advice???

 

sounds like the shifter cable needs to be adjusted..
you can start the start in neutral and park.
you can get under the car and manually shift the tranny around, my friend had to do that because his cable broke..

 

i got under there and shifted it manually and checked out the linkage and cable and everything is fine there. still having strouble with the "stopping" at 10 mph any advice?
