Wheres 3rd gear?

I have a 1989 trans am 305 tpi A4. I ran it at the track and got no 3rd gear. I broke the traps at 5800rpm@83mph. It shifts into 3rd and overdrive inder normal driving conditions. Anybody had this problem before?

Transmission: 4L60E

Axle/Gears: 2.73

check your trans fluid mine does the same thing when the trans would get low and got on it real hard.
