SLP shift kit question, very strange

I've got the SLP shift kit and a lot of other SLP stuff, anyways. Why is it that when my car is left in D or OD it shifts firm and nice in every gear including the 1st to 2nd. When I leave it in 1st and shift into 2nd at like 2300rpm the tires chirp ALWAYS. Either that or I break my neck. If I leave it in 2nd it does the same thing but it'll shift into 2nd at like 1800rpm and not chirp, just hurts the neck. It's great when I shift it myself at a higher rpm, it's just at the low speed manual shifts.
Is this normal? Is leaving the car in 1st building up line pressure so that the shift into 2nd is really hard? What else would explain this. BTW, the 2nd to 3rd gear manual shifting is always normal, doesn't feel any different than leaving it in D or OD.
