price of used 700-r4

hey guys i have an 89 bird with a t-5 in it and i wunt to swap to an auto for strength reasons. Now how much should i expect to pay for a 700-r4 out of the junk yard? also is there a kit i can buy to rebuild the trannyand make it a bit stronger. like say 400-450 horse. alsois there a certain yea ri need to make it fot or a stronger year? and finally how strong is a stock 700-r4? thanks

You can get them for between $200-800. You'll want one from an '88-93 700R-4. If its a '93, make sure you tell them NOT a 4L60-E. As for a kit to make it stronger, the price you would pay for a junk tranny, and then the cost of the parts, why not spend a little more and get a decent tranny already built to handle that?

depends are what kinda deal you can get... i heard people finding them at junyards for 50 bucks!!

I paid $250 for mine it came out of an 87 astro and the tailshaft already had a place to mount the torque arm up without having to change the tailshaft housing

I have sold quite a few transmissions, rebuilts sell for 300-500 and built will sell for 500-1000.00

Also you can get a core, and get it rebuilt, usually more expensive, but this way you know whats been done to it...
