Yes, I think their Zexel-Torsen posi is a direct bolt in.

i just had an auburn posi installed a few months back that was also a direct bolt in.the only thing differnt is that i got a posi for a series 2 carrier as opposed to a 1. a series 1 only allows for 3.08 gears and down and a series 2 allows for 3.23 and up gears.my car came with 2.73's(got rid of that in a hurry).a new bearing kit
is also a must.however if your car is making a lot of twist the zexel torsen is the more bulletproof rear.as far as being inexpensive rears are an area you don't want to skimp on if you plan on making big power down the line.

I dont want to skimp on anything. By inexpensive i meant i didnt want to drop $2000 on a complete rear axel assembly. I dont think i need anything too bullet proof seeing as I only have a 305 with light mods, but i also have many ideas which would require a stronger rear later on. Making decisions is hard.

Get the SLP unit, and a better set of gears at the same time. I'd recommend 3.42s. All of that together as a package will bolt right in.

The SLP unit will not work with 2-series gears, which is what you almost certainly have now. There is no way to make it work with 2-series gears. IMHO it is beyond even ordinary stupidity to buy a 2-series posi, as that limits your future options. 3-series is the way to go.

You might be able to come out cheaper if you go to the boneyard and get a rear end out of a 90-up (must be 90-up) 6-cyl Camaro or Firebird 5-speed, as those often already have the 3.42 gears. Then put the SLP unit in that rear and swap it into your car.

Does anyone know the difference between the $99.95 SLP posi and the $499.95? I asume that the more expensive one is more heavy duty, but does anyone know anything about the cheaper one. Does it explode or anything not fun like that? Tanks

For $99 it sounds like to me that it's a mini spool but I could be wrong.

the $99 one is the posi unit that is taken off Z28s and Trans Ams that are going to become SSs and Firehawks, they are used but only have about 10 miles on them, i just had one installed on my 90 RS along with some Richmond 3.73s and i am very impressed. The SSs and Firehawks get the new HD posi unit which is the $499 one. I guess unless youre going to be pushing 350+ HP, the cheaper one is good enough for you, they have to be stronge units because they are put behind LS1s with 310 HP and 340 ft-lbs of torque.

definately change the gears, there is really no purpose of upgrading to a posi unit if youre going to use the stock 2.73s
