3.73 install

what all is involved is swapping a rear end....to hell with buying the gears, posi, and an install kit, THEN me not being able to put it on, all more twice the money of a used rear end with 3.73s in it already......so yeah, ...what all do i have to take off lol

Not necessarly in the proper order, but lower shock mounts, lower control arms, panhard bar, brake line, e-brake cables, torque arm, and driveshaft. Your rear springs will fall out, and just be sure to get them back in correctly with the isolators on top of the springs.

I just did this 2 weekends ago and I had about 8 hours in it along with doing the rear brakes and finishing up my zexel install. I couldn't be more happy with my switch to the 3.42's and zexel. I decided to get on it the other evening and it was a nice feeling to have the car sideways spinning BOTH rear tires for a change. It was a completely different feeling. Made a world of difference in my car.

oh yeah, and how did you get the front end to not roll when the rear was up in the air.....also....does that cover the spedo gear swap or do i still have to get the spedo gear?

You do not need a spring compressor. A good floor jack and a good set of jack stands. I placed blocks in front of the front wheels for safety, but the professional set of jack stands I have prevented the car from moving. Just take your time jacking up the car and setting the jack stands. Give the car a good shake to make sure the stands are placed correctly and the car sits firmly on them. I'd rather have the car fall off the stands from me checking to see how secure it is rather than it falling off with me under it. And, get yourself a good creeper. It's worth it weight in gold when doign this or any other job under the car.

Other than hand tools and the jack and stands, there isn't anything special required.

Don't forget to pick up some brake fluid. You will have to bleed the rear brakes when you are done.

just make sure you know how do install them, if u dont feel 100% confident i wouldnt even think about doing them yourself, from what i read on the boards it is not a job for a beginner
