Maybe....
In your case, one 26-spline unit with 3.42 gears to replace a 26-spline unit with {gag} gears, it's a no-brainer. I'm even qualified to figure that one out, since I have no brain.
Under the circumstances, I'd say go on ahead and swap it.

anyone 100% confirm or deny this ?
thanks
89 and up is when GM started the swap of differnt axels. but in 89 u could also get a camaro or firebird with 26 or 28 spline axels. i think thats also when the G92 option came into play but im not sure. could anyone varify that?

crappy, hmm.,., oh well 3.42 is alot better than the possible 3.23 which is lowest ratio the 82 t/a is possibly going to have
while im here again, does anyone know if the 28 spline axle shafts neck down further or less than 26 spline shafts ?
whats the smallest that either neck down to anywhere on the shafts of both splines ? this wouls be basically more important as far as strength than how many splines..
thanks
