How much better are 3.08's over 2.77's?

Probly won't feel much of a difference, if any. I went from 2.73's to 3.23's and can feel a small difference, but nothing drastic. If you want something you can feel, go to 3.42s or 3.73's. I also went from 2.73's to 3.73's and my car felt like it would get up and go twice as quick.

Like Laiky said tho, it all depends on your wants and driving needs...

if you do a lot of highway, 3.73's might be too much. for the record, my brothers 84 ho came from the factory with 3.73's. its great on the highway with them, but that motor loves to rev. i think i would hate them in my car even when i had the lg4, now i have a 383 and i really don't need any more gear. i can spin my tires from a roll in seconf gear. if you run a 305 i think you might like them but in my case i like the lower cruising rpm and mileage (not much of that). i can red line 4th with no problem that is something like 130, a less powerful motor might take all day to push 3.27's to red line, my brothers basically stock ho will spin 3rd gear ( automatic, same as 4th in my TKO) to 6500 rpm-7000rpm. if he had 3.27's he probably couldn't do that, and would be slower as a result. tell us more about your motor.

I have a 305 out of a 81 chevy van rebuilt 10,000 miles ago. Going to be swapping out the 200 trans for a auto 350. I think I'm going to try a first time porting job this winter on my 305 heads. I plan on getting the parts listed below.
Edelbrock eps dual plane intake maniflod.Hedman shorty headers to true duals. Summit 224/224 Cam. Summit 1,900-2,000 stall torque converter.
Also, this going to be my daily driver.

too much cam, stay with an overdrive tranny. the overdrive offers a lower first gear and an OD 4th gear. with a 350 you will lose some first gear ratio and give up the overdrive. that makes a lower rear gear necessary and a liability at the same time. the 350 has a 2.52 first vs a 3.08 in a 700. the 700 has a .70 od wich will lower your overall cuise rpm for any given rearend ratio

I already have the 350 trans and dont have the money for another. The 200 trans that is in my car is messed up, that is why i'm swapping.

2.73's better?

Would I get more traction with my 2.73's over say 3.42's or something in that range. I dont have money to buy limited slip but I want to make my engine more powerful. Looking to make around 250-290hp and 270-290tq. Wouldn't I spin the tires less with the 2.73's. Just wondering, so let me know. Thanks

2.73's will not work right if you plan to put a bigger cam in or for any type of performance... you want 3.42 or higher (numerically). you would have more traction but that would be due to loss of power, you dont want that.
