can i still use this 9-bolt?
got a b/w 9 bolt for $50 (probably saw it in the ads if you where there). Took the cover off to inspect it and it has a cone clutch posi unit that is still nice and tight, surprisingly, and everything seems to be in order. There is one small problem i found. On one of the teeth on the ring gear, there is a very small amount of surface pitting. overall, the area on the outer part of the tooth is probably less than a mm in legnth and probably 1/3 mm in width with several very small shallow pits. Looks like there may have been a defect in the material that predesposed the area to surface fatigue failure. All of the other teeth look like theyre in good shape. Do you guys think i could get another 10k out of this thing w/o any problems? I know i wont be able to easily find another gearset for this thing so im probably stuck with what it has.

Should be ok. Run it until it breaks. Gears are available here www.9bolt.com
