can i still use this 9-bolt?

got a b/w 9 bolt for $50 (probably saw it in the ads if you where there). Took the cover off to inspect it and it has a cone clutch posi unit that is still nice and tight, surprisingly, and everything seems to be in order. There is one small problem i found. On one of the teeth on the ring gear, there is a very small amount of surface pitting. overall, the area on the outer part of the tooth is probably less than a mm in legnth and probably 1/3 mm in width with several very small shallow pits. Looks like there may have been a defect in the material that predesposed the area to surface fatigue failure. All of the other teeth look like theyre in good shape. Do you guys think i could get another 10k out of this thing w/o any problems? I know i wont be able to easily find another gearset for this thing so im probably stuck with what it has.

I would use it. The worst that would happen is it would be noisey. but I wouldn't worry too much.

thats what i figured, also. the rear will probably start complaining before its in any danger of failing. hopefully itll hold out for a while.

Should be ok. Run it until it breaks. Gears are available here www.9bolt.com
