I think it all depends on what you mean by "modified" 350.
How much torque and horsepower do you expect to run?
What condition is the tranny in? How many miles does it have on it?

well i'm pretty sure that 400 hp is more horsepower than what a stock 700r4 can handle, but with only 70,000 some miles and if its in good condition, then maybe just go with the engine for now and then dont fix the tranny sinse its in good shape. After a while (could be a month could be a year? depends on driving style, etc...) the modded 350 will wear down and break the tranny. Then you could replace the tranny later, save a little money now and spend the money later.
or you can play the safe and easier route and just rebuild your existing tranny or purchase a stronger performance tranny when you drop in the 350. saves on time/labor later. you could also sell the old 700r4 to some board members on here, i know of quite a few looking for good used trannys.
hope this can help ya!

first of all, you are going to have to build up the tranny anyways to take the 400 hp, and second, you should do it when you get your engine.
some people dont have the money for the tranny when they do their engine so they just wait till the thing is scrap metal, by then they have the money and they just replace it with a stronger rebuilt one.

well one thing to do would be to get a corvette servo....
lots of other things to do too but i would suggest doing a search on this board, i have seen people asking this similar question and getting some very detailed responses.

https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...trength+tranny
maybe this can help
also, i would pm Pro Built Automatics,
he posts a lot on here and could really help you out with what your situation is. he could probably build your tranny with no problem and to whatever strength you need it.
