Tranny goes to OD way too soon

It really pisses me off when im cruising at like 35mph and the thing shifts to OD and the motor goes to like 1000rpm and then i cant climb a hill and it takes like 50% throttle to make it shift back to 3rd. Espcially annoying when i have to follow someone who insists on going exactly 35 through a hilly area. Is there a way i an make it so that the trans never, ever for any reason shifts to OD before 40mph.

First, make sure you have the TV cable adjusted correctly. Second, keep it in 3rd (drive) around town. Third, "do not" let it hunt for a gear, pick the gear it needs. Try these ideas first and let me know what happens.

The cable looks fine, and i dont have trouble with any other gear, and it only does it at very low throttle. I tested it again today and its only really bad at <25% throttle and uphill. The way i go to school, i have just such a road and if i get behind someone i have to put it back into D because it wont downshift unless i give it a good amount of gas, which i dont want to do. I just cringe everytime i have to manually downshift an auto, i think i am slowly killing it. The tranny has already lasted over 130000 miles, i dont want to kill it thanks to my new way to school.

The least amout of wear occurs in the "Drive" position, not overdrive. So putting it in drive has advantages of not letting it shift into OD then back to drive, then back....... Put into OD when you want it to be there, otherwise don't worry about it. Most people that I know (that drive performance vehicles) do it this way.

since we are talking about drive / od

i have a question when i drive to work my first 5 miles are 35 mph miles and below.. so your saying its better to run in drive?

how about going 45 to 55 mph would od be better than?

i always just put the shifter in od and just drive everywhere..

i just like od because it seems it would be the lowest rpm for better gas mileage.
