anyone running a narrowed 9" with the 4 link set up
i'm starting work on the 86 big block project, I've come across a narrowed 9 inch and thought that the 4 link is probably the only that will both work and that I can afford
I would just like some feed back from anyone who is running a narrowed rearend
thanks,
vic

how narrow is the rear? are you going to have to back half the car? these are things you need to know ahead of time. buying a rear 3/4" shorter per side then factory does nt cause any problems but anything shorter and its time to cut the frame.
anyway ladder bar set ups are generally cheaper then four links

Ladder bars are easier but are for straight line only. They'll be very noisy on the street.
A 4-link is the way to go for a street car however to install a 4 link into a third gen it means backhalving the car. That's a big project to do and not recommended for the average backyard mechanic. My race car isn't even backhalved.
Any diff narrower than stock in a third gen will also require backhalving anyway since the way the "frame rails" are built into the body there's no way to install a narrow diff without cutting out the entire rear floor.
