im sure others will chime in.

Requires:
adapter plate (eliminates 15degree trans rotation) and bolts a Ford trans bolt pattern up to the GM bellhousing.

C6 yoke for driveshaft.
Spacers on the crossmember to account for slightly lower transmount.
Speedo converter

Installed my TKO 2 weeks ago.
Got the kit from Fortes.

http://www.fortesparts.com/tremec/tr3550.html

Kit comes with:
Tremec TKO trans
w/longer input shaft and input bearing retainer (to make up for the adapter thickness)
Bellhousing adapter
Crossmember spacers and bolts
Speedometer adapter (electronic adapter, choice of gear ratio)
Shifter adapter plate (allows you to re-use existing stick)
C6 Driveshaft Yoke
Spicer U-joint (adapts C6 yoke to stock driveshaft)
Backup Light switch
3 quarts of GM Syncromesh Fluid

You'll need to buy a few miscellaneous bolts as the Tremec's SAE and the T5 is metric.
You can use the same throwout bearing and clutch.
Trans Mount and Torque arm bolt right up.
You'll need to modify the crossmember a little to get everything lined up.
Swap took me and a friend about 6-1/2 hours including two trips to the hardware store and lunch, but we were able to use a lift at the dealership.
If you're doing it in the driveway, allow yourself a whole day or even a weekend if you drink a lot of beer while you work.

OMG :hail: :hail:

Thanx alot for the info ........hay just curious .....what did he charge you???

Y a.... I will be doing this in the garage ....... So from this point on when I am shopping for a clutch or a flywheel or anything like that .....I can saftely say that it is for a regular T-5 ( all the consumable parts I e ... throw out bearing , clutch , etc )

Also I talked with Mike Fortes on the phone he said that they sell a crossmember as well ....... didn't want that ? I am going to get it

It was $2192 (plus shipping).
He didn't mention the crossmember to me, but I may get the Spohn Crossmember/Torque Arm this summer.

Anything for the T5 should work if you're using the stock bellhousing, A Lakewood bellhousing complicates things a little.

I'm using the Hayes 30 Lb. Billet Flywheel (#10-530), Centerforce Dual Friction Clutch Disc and Pressure Plate (#DF1611056) and Centerforce Throwout Bearing (#N1716).
Also Moroso Roller Pilot Bearing (#41100).

Any pics of this " modificatin " ...... or is it just adding spacers. I would hate to get it in and find out I need some special cutting device for the thing to work

Thanx again

Need to elongate a couple holes and drill a new one.
Crossmember actually sits farther rearward on one side afterwards. And yes it's spaced down 3/4".
Nothing major.
No welding required (if that's what you're worried about)

If you have an electronic speedometer, you'll need to trim one of the mounting bosses off of the trans to clear it.
The trans mount pad has four bolt holes (the two outside ones for Ford applications-two inside fit gm mounts)
Just need to cut it off on the driver's side, just inside of the outer bolt hole.
It's aluminum, you could use a hacksaw if you had to (I used a die grinder and cutoff wheel-quick)

If you don't have an electronic speedo, you won't need to do this.

Good luck with your project man. I finished up last night about midnight with mine. Nice! The little L98 feels real good with the five speed.

BTW, I used the Spohn crossmember on my car but I have the crossmember and spacers that Fortes sells if you are interested. If so just PM me and we'll talk.

i seem to be missing the trans to adapter bolts.. anybody know the size??

Also.. I have two bolts that have the first .5" unthreaded but they are too short to be the adapter bolts. They have an aluminum retainer with a 90 degree bend in them.. anybody know what these do?

thanks

the trans to adapter bolts should be like 1/2 " allen head bolts i believe....they are pretty beefy.

Just out of curiousity...did you need to shorten your driveshaft at all?

I have a 1LE driveshaft and it is the same between auto and manual...but since I am converting from auto to manual trans at the same time as the swap...just want to make sure I don't need to modify the driveshaft at all...

Thanks...

you'll need a different transmission yoke, but the overall length is the same....the output shaft is just different. the kit should come with the yoke and an adapter u-joint

I will have to check that...I bought a used (but hopefully complete) TKO setup from a friend of mine...he bought it over a year ago and never installed it...

I was hoping that the answer was in the yoke, cause I really don't want to find a different driveshaft

I will check to see what I have and go from there...

Thanks!

no problem, if you find that you dont have one just call fortes and have him send you the yoke and the u-joint that goes with it.

Spicer Conversion U-Joint

Hey TKO swappers...

I'm working on my TKO install and I wonder if anyone can tell me what the part number is on this Spicer (or any other make) converion U-Joint is??

Hoping someone hasn't thrown the box away yet!

Edit: Seeing as this is a fairly old thread, I started a new one at:
