will this work?

My Dad has a 95 Z-28 convertible that he put new gears in last summer. His stock gears were 2.73's and he switched in 3.73's. They are Richmond gears if that matters. Anyway, they whine and he wants a quieter car so he told me he was switching them out and that I could have them to throw into my car for free if I want them. My questions are:

1. Would they work in my car? I have the stock 2.73's in there now. The rest of the cars description is in the sig. I can't check anything else right now about the rear end because the car is in storage quite a ways away.

2. Do I need to buy anything else to make the swap easier or possible even? I have a buddy that knows how to swap gears, its just a matter of getting the gears from my dad and getting them over to my buddies.

3. If I decided to have a mechanic do them how much would this cost?

4. How do I calibrate my speedo to work with the new gears?

5. Is there anything else I have forgotten or left out?

are 4th gen gears the same as thirdgen gears?????? I didn't think so but what do I know lol, also, the other thing I'd be worried about is that 2.73 carrier should be a series 2 carrier (at least I am pretty sure....I though 2.73s were series 2 and 3.23's and up were series 3) Now I don't know if the 4th gens follow that standard or not, but if they do you'd have to get a ring gear spacer to line it up. Still though, I don't believe that 4th gen gears will work in a 3rd gen...As far as labor goes, they will probably want you to have the $100 install kit which contains all bearings, seals, gaskets, screws, etc. For example, the screwes in the ring gear are meant to mushroom so they are usable only once. I was told to figure anywhere btw 4-16 hours of labor depending on how easy it is to get the gears to align. I know mine were a major Pain in the *** and it cost me $500 in labor alone to get the gears in. I had spent a total of $350 on gears and install kit, $300 on axles, $200 on upgraded series 3 carrier, $150 on a differential support cover, and $20 on the solid bearing spacer from ratech. total cost for buildup $1520 kinda scarey...lol
Good luck
