Tranny options

hey guys.. im gettin ready to swap out my 2.8 for a 350 and i currently have a p.o.s. 4 speed in it. (if ya cant tell.. i dunno jack bout trannies..) what tranny would ya recommend puttin behind it. im on a tight budget and im lookin for a tranny that'll hold up against a guy w/ a really heavy right foot.... oh by the way... im lookin for a 4 or 5 speed..thanx alot!!

u dont have a whole lot of options
T5 (5speeds) require a special bellhousing that turns the trans 15degrees. The 4speeds require manual clutch linkage (you might be able to make a hyd-work...but I doubt it.). Then there is the torque arm attachment issue....

t-5 hydro clutch linkages found in 84-up maybe even earlier, very common, i reccommend a T-56 tranny, or better

also...
ok why would you recommend a t-56 over a t-5? what would price differences be? would the t-5 hold up behind a 350? what would i have to do bout my driveshaft?

OR would anyone drop in a TH-350???? or other such automatic...

well lets see.... the t-56 is kinda pricy, the t-5's dont kold up to a strong 350 motor, th350' suck on the highway but are good trannys otherwise, id say if you got the money go t-56 but if not get a built t-5 and last but not least the th350 as a last resort... there pretty cheap overall
