How to tell a wc t-5 from a regular t-5?

Are the 88+ v6 trannies the same as the v-8's, and how do i tell a wc t5 from a regular t5?? The reason i ask is i have a good deal on a 92 Z t5 tranny but i want to make sure when i go to pick it up that it is a WC t-5 and not a regular t5 or a v6 tranny, i just don't want to get screwed over. I need a wc t5 and i know 88+'s are wc's. someone give me something to look for when i look at it before i buy it.

No 6-cyl T-5s are the same as V8 ones. The 6-cyl ones got the smaller, weaker clutch gear with fewer splines, 14 instead of 26. Count the splines, if it's 26 it's a V8; anything else, it's not.

Visit www.gearzone.net and look at their 5-speed page, they have pics of the front countergear bearing, which is on the front face of the trans down low, you can see it even with the trans in the car. The 1st design is flat and shiny, with rolled-looking edges, looks just like an upside-down freeze plug; the 2nd design has a dull finish, sharp edges, and a depressed area in the center that makes it look like it has a ridge around it about 3/16" wide.

Axle/Gears: Yup -- they still work
I read once that the WC T5 had a longer input shaft. Don't know how much longer ?

Wrong. They're the same. Same part # for one with the same # of teeth in fact, that's one of the parts that didn't change between the 2 designs.
