gear swap?

i pulled the diff cover on my 89 to find out what gears i have in there now. well they are 3.08s, so this means i have a 2 series carrier right? also i have the 26 spline axles. i have a set of 3.42 gears out of a late model f-bod, now my question is about the carrier. do i have to swap to a 3 series carrier?

Yes you do have to swap over to a 3 series carrier. A good one would be the zexel take out units from SLP for $99. You will have to change to 28 spline axles, but then you would have a posi that actually works. If you are going to go to the trouble of swapping gears, then why not go all the way and be able to actually put the power to the ground with the zexel.

I really like the way my zexel works in my 87. It's by far the best mod I've ever done to the car. All the other mods to increase power just made the lack of a working posi even worse. Now with the zexel I can actaully use the extra power from the mods I've done to the car.
