91 camaro rs vs 91 firebird
91 camaro rs vs 91 firebird
hey all.. I just want to check something so I don't get into any trouble..
I've got a 91 firebird with a blown v6 (3.1 of course) - I got a source to buy a 91 camaro rs with a v6 - I'd be buying it for the engine and trans for ~ 400.. 20k on the rebuilt motor, and < 20k on a rebuilt trans. This seems like a decent deal - the front-end of the car is wrecked, so I'm only gettin it for engine and trans.. maybe sell off other parts.
sorry - back to topic.. I'd assume the camaro used the same engine, right? And being that, the swap should be pretty much painless right - mostly exchange stuff.. I can't imagine the wiring is all that different, if different at all?
Please enlighten me asap - gotta make a decision on this car in the next couple of days - thanks!

as far as I know, it should be a direct swap. The motors are all gm corporate motors. The sensors are the same. It should just bolt in and hook up the sensors. Let me qualify this by saying as far as I know. Hope this helps.

You gotta remember that these cars rolled down the same assembly line. Same chassis, same engine and same transmission. The only difference was what sheetmetal it got. Other than the obvious stuff like fenders and tailights, most everything else is the same. There are a few exceptions like the body harness to accomodate for popup headlights and such, but the engine, engine harness, transmission, rearend, suspension parts, doors, glass, T-Tops, etc... are all interchangable.
So in short, to answer your question, the tranny and engine are a direct swap.
