Best Clutch for the money???
I installed a new clutch disc when I installed my new motor a little over 6,000 miles ago. I got an o.e. replacement Centerforce.
Well, the new motor has some power and the clutch is pretty much shot already. Now it'll catch on the launch but it slips really bad when I shift. If I don't launch it, and just shift at 5,500 rpm, it grabs and the tires break loose. So basically, as sson as it heats up, it slips like a bastard.
What is the best all around clutch for a motor with about 300 h.p.?? Centerforce dual friction?? Or are there cheaper/better alternatives??

Ok guys....
What about RAM?? How bout ZOOM???
I really don't want to spend all that much, but I want a decent clutch that isn't gonna crap out on me with 300 horsies.
Edit: I guess 270 bucks isn't that bad. I was hoping to spend only about 200 though.

I definitely agree with the others on the Centerforce Dual Friction!
I had a RAM in my '69 GTO when I first got it put together and it slipped like heck every time I got on the gas! I put a Dual Friction in it and it was a huge improvement (still slipped because of a rear main leak though). I put a DF in with my new motor and T-56 in the TA and it's perfect! grabs great! I don't have any experience with ZOOM, but I would steer clear of RAM, and I would definitely recommend a CF DF! BUT, MAKE SURE you get the flywheel resurfaced and follow Centerforce's breakin procedure, because I have heard of premature failure (not hugely premature) because of not following their instructions (the real big one is resurfacing the flywheel, from what I've heard). Anyway, that's my $0.02 FWIW, but some people have had bad experience with Centerforce too, so it's up to you in the end (obviously lol

I meant to say this in my post but forgot to, lol. Yeah, 270 is a chunk of change, but be glad that you aren't shopping for a clutch for a t-56....I paid about 550 for mine
Oh well, ya gotta do what ya gotta do I guess!

Well then.....
I guess I'm not feeling too bad after all. I'll probably get the centerforce, they seem to be the most widely used.
Hey 87 B4Z:
How much do the McLeod clutches go for??

Checked out Thunder Racing....
Ok there are the SPEC clutches good for 700 horse, or the McLeod for at least 500 hp.
What is that max I can throw at the Centerforce DF??? 500???

I wouldn't be asking " What is that max I can throw at the Centerforce DF" I would be asking " what makes a clutch capeable of handling 500 or 700 HP"
I don't know how much power it can handle, there are too many factors involved. What i do know is that it is a great clutch, it drives great and feels great. Smooth engagment, linear and locks up tight. I figure my combo is good for at least 400 HP 400 Ftlb. It has never given any indication its being stressed.

Good...
That's all I needed to know. I'm not planning on a huge horsepower setup, but I really like to get on it when I want to...which is a lot, without burnin' the clutch up.

I'd go with the Spec Clutch kit. Stage 3 Kevlar, I believe is a decent one.
I had the CenterForce Dual Friction in my car, but I didn't have that much power, about 250rwhp. It held up fine on my setup.
But I have heard that the quality of the CF clutches has gone down since I got mine in 2000.
