Mine is under the upper part of the center console (from a 97 TA). If I remove the two screws that hold the upper console and pull it up I can access the box for calibration changes (not that it happens often - if at all, but still..... think ahead when you mount it).
The wiring is not really tapped into anywhere.... more like all new stuff has been ran to and from the VSS and the SGI-5 and then the output of the SGI-5 is spliced into the existing VSS signal-in wire in the trans tunnel above the trans near the firewall. Power is off the accessory circuit and grounds are all new.

I did a swap from an auto, so I mounted the SGI-5 box just to the right of the auto shift-cable hole. I used the rubber grommet from the shift cable to close that hole, and ran the speedo wires through it.
The only wire I tapped into was the radio's power wire. The only other wires are gound (I attached b/t the rubber boot and the tunnel), and the speedo wires to the ecm, and from the tranny. My backup light wires go through that hole too, but those aren't connected to the speedo. All I have to to is take of the shift plate to change calibrations, or get a long skinny screwdriver, and go through the ash tray.
