just your thoughts

I have a near show condition 82 trans am that I want to modify, so just wanted to here a few members thoughts first off the car is a LG-4 with the much hated turbo 200 metric transmission, its a black/gold car with tan leather, here are the mods I want to do to my baby, first the carb has to go (giving me problems anyway) I have a complete crossfire injection system with engine, interion and the tail section harness, I cant imagine this would lower the value of the car as it was a option anyways and more desirable, I would also like to add a serpentine belt drive system from a 88 up f-body with dual fans, my next change will be the transmission, I recently purchased a T-5 from a 87 camaro Z-28 my thought are better MPG's and alot more fun to drive, also I have a rebuilt 373 posi disc brake rear end with a bunch of WS-6 suspension stuff from a donor car, and last but not least I have a 89 trans am dash and center console this would surely hurt the resale value is my guess, but in my opinion they look alot better than the 82-84 dash, also I plan on putting a late f-body CD theftlock radio in it to replace my hi-fi push button am/fm radio, I'm sure no one can fault me for this idea, I don't want to try and up grade anything from a 4th generation car, but I thought a taste of the old and a little newer would make the car a whole lot nicer

My personal opinion - if it's near show condition, and it's all OEM stuff, LEAVE IT ALONE! Give it 15 years, and it'll be worth some bucks. Just look at a Camaro that's near show room quality from 1967, and what it's worth now. Could probably expect a similar result. If you have all the parts you talked about, you might as well get another 3rd gen (always some for sale) that has been beat up a bit, and then you could do whatever you wanted without worrying about resale value. Sounds like you'd be replacing everything anyway. Just my 2¢

The CFI is NOT more desirable. It is getting nearly impossible to service those any more, as they are disappearing so fast. Most people who have them abandon them because when they break, they can be very hard to fix.

Add to that the way they run. I don't know how old you are, but when those were brand-new, I went and test-drove them. They impressed me as being exactly the same thing as a Citation 4-cylinder, just twice as much of it. They didn't have the least little bit of a performance feel to them whatsoever. Not only did I not find them desirable, I found them UNdesirable, and decided not to buy one of those cars, and instead waited for some other engine option to become available.

When the L69 (HO motor) came out in 83, it was a whole different story. Those would spank a 350 CFI Vette so mercilessly it was almost laughable, and made the CFI 305 F cars look like grocery carts; especially compared to the Pontiacs, because of the weight difference (200 lbs easy).

My advice would be, to get a L69 motor, or reuild your LG4 to be as close to a L69 as possible. It's a far easier swap, with far better results. Alot of the parts are identical. The main differences were the pistons (flat in the L69, dished in the LG4); cam; exhaust (that's a huge difference, nearly 50% cross-sectional area in some places, particularly the Y-pipe); electric fan in the HO vs. clutch fan in the LG4; and the L69 cars came from the factory with 3.73 gears.
