swapping gears

the rear i have now has the stock 273 gears. I would like to step up to at least 342's maybe 373's. Excuse my newbness, but what exactly do I have to do to swap the gears? Is it hard to do?

It's not "hard to do" if you know what you're doing. You're best bet would be to get a whole different rear. The cost of the rear would be close to the cost of a gear install alone.
