Pro Built & others

Dana and 3rd genners I am ready for my ProBuilt but need advice on a converter.

I want to go with the ACT line 9.5" verters all thats left is stall speed.

Mods are in sig plus ported Vortec heads, ported SDPC base, ported SLP runners & plenum and Xtreme energy Comp cam 218/224 112 LSA.

Dana, I called and left a message today, but my phone gets no reception in the shop....plus there are a lot of people w/ similar mods out there so they can see this post for advice also.

I want the nastiest launches I can get at the track. Obviously, the converter needs to be matched for my cam and this car IS a daily driver. I can sacrifice a little driveability if it will make a beneficial difference at the track. P.S> i have 26" tall slicks also.

On nitrous this car has run in the 10's w/ STOCK trans before....LOL that explains why i need a new one

3500 stall feels good on the street and track. It depends on whether you want a 'tight' or 'loose' convertor. There is a difference.

How much compression are you running? How much (horsepower wise) are you adding with the nitrous. Do you mind if the TC is a bit slippery on the street? Do you drive agressively?, or pretty much conservatively? All these questions will help in determining what stall you will want/need. The cam you want to use is a good choice. If you ran a 10 second run on a stock 700R4?, that's unheard of! How much nitrous did you use on that run? I got a message today from someone that i could not make out from whom, I gather it was from you, try again please or e-mail me. Let me know?

hey if it aint warrantied...it means hes not sure/confident about his product=i no buy. There are a few local guys that say "try and break this beeatch"...so that would be my next option. I just hear nothing but good stand up things about Dana...therefore my decision

This is not a dare, you can break anything if you try, I just think that most people who use my units want results, and someone who will work with them to get it.

I'm sorry that my remark may have been seen as a insult. I had a question mark over my head for a minute there.

Your probably going to need to have a scatter shield for rules or what ever.
I ment that as merely as a general statement as a 10 sec 700r4. woooweee.

I have a TH350, and maybe a 12 second car, and I worry about getting my legs chopped off, every time I hit 6500 RPMS.
It was more of a safety statement, than a comment.

'Pro Built Automatics' I wouldn't debate your wisdom with assembling these unit to perfection, and I think it's cool that you actually warrantee (to a point I'm sure) a 10 second car.

None taken, I was not questioning what you said. Is there a requirement of a "scattersheid" or just a "transmission blanket" where you race?

sheeit, Dana you said it man!! I want results...botttom line, and THAT is why I came to Pro-Built for this tranny.

All we need to run is a blanket on the trans....I have been running a modified TCI shield when i started "going faster". LOL, before I had a sheild, in third gear I'd use a stick to hold the throttle down and lift my legs in the air as I went through the traps!!(not really, but i SERIOUSLY wanted to when the thought of the trans being in my lap crossed my mind)

Dana did you get my e-mail?? There are some more details in there. It was sent pretty late and I guess you check once a night or so...anyway, its there.

As a reminder....this is in no way a "drag car". I am more of a weekend warrior type. I dont wanna send out the wrong message.

Ha Ha, It always had me worried because I don't have any carpet or interior, just some heat barrier material. The only thing between me, and that potential grenade is - what 18 gauge metal.
I'll probably just throw a flak jacket over it like you.

I don't drag race at a track, but a quick search turned up a slew of rules around the country. Everything from just running Nitrous, to running faster than 9.99.
What surprised me was even a lot of circle tracks require shields or blankets, others just recommend them.
SFI 4.1 kept coming up, and for the most part it seemed it was an either/or with the blanket & shield. However I noticed on tractor pulls they wanted a blanket pretty much covering the whole dang trannie.

The number one thing with me, even before a blanket is a Loop. I've probably threw out this story before, but I had a U-Joint let go at full song. That was crazy!!! Luckily it was my rear that broke. My engine went right to valve float, and the driveshaft was knocking the rear of the car up. Talk about the sky is falling.

I've been told by a few torque converter people that the lowest stall possible, with a 9.5" converter and 500 Ft. Lbs of torque is 2800...

and thats it. thats the lowest you can get. Somone mentioned somthing about a K-factor and had a bunch of technical stuff to support their info, but Apparantly the 9.5" is more efficient at what it does, but is simply a looser converter by nature...

is this true? or have i got it backwards?
