85 into an 87 TH700R4 "Wiring"
I've got a built 700R4 sitting in my garage from my '85 IROC. I plan on putting it in my '87 IROC with my 350 (replacing it's 305).
I have to swap the speedo gears (don't know what my '85 was setup with)... and I've been told that the '85 and the '87 700R4s each use a different kind of wiring. Each have a 4 prong plug, but each prog is used differently by the computers per year.
I was told I have to pop the pan of each.... and just swap wiring harnesses.
Is this true? And does anyone have any more info for me than that before I start ripping my transmissions apart?

It should work about the same. Most of the pins in the connector are for the same purpose (4th gear switch, TCC, etc...) but the actual wiring in the tranny may vary. However, this should not effect operation. Sometimes the TCC can be grounded through a temperature switch, a gear switch, etc... It all varies on model, but like I said, it shouldn't effect operation.
