Bell Housings... interchangeable?

Hey Guys, I have a 1991 Z28 (5.7 L98), when I bought it, the guy installed a new transmission and torque converter, but didn't put the bell housing back on. I have a totaled 1984 Z28 (L69) and was wondering if the bell housing from that would fit? Thanks Alot

There is no discrete "bell housing" on a car with a torque converter. It's part of the transmission case.

If you're talking about the TC dust cover that goes underneath the converter, then it may not, because the place on the oil pan that it clips to is different (1-piece rear main seal vs. 2-piece). But it might, depending on how that part of it is made.

I'm not any kind of mechanic at all.....but..yeah..it's the dust cover thing...from looking underneath the car, there is the big "thing" that is flying around and around....and it's kind of noisy with no cover on it. So.....I guess I'll just have to get a TC dust cover from a 91 or 92 then?

That would be the safe thing. Make sure it's a V8.

You could try the other one; it might go in, but since the oil pan is a little different, it also might not. Just try it and see.
