for the last 2 days, it feels like my trans will shift whenever it pleases. Sometimes it will shift just fine, then a minute later I wont be able to shift into OD and it will stay in 3rd.

If i accelerate to 45mph(where my rpm's are around 2500) and I take my foot off the gas, the rpm's will hang at 2500 for 1-2 seconds and then drop.

Sometime's when I'm cruising and say my rpm's are around 1200 and I take my foot off the gas, it will hang, the rpm's will drop to 700 for a half second and then jump back to 1200...with my foot still off the gas.

I when i'm idling at a stoplight, sometimes my car will just die...it feels like it shifted to second while i'm idling?!? I have been dropping into neutral at stoplights which keeps the car from dying.

I hope i'm explaining this well. I would appreciate any help as i know very little about trannies.

hmmm.....crazy chicago, i never understand the weird problems i have with my cars in this city, anywho, i and guessing here, but i have an 85 cutlass and had much the same problem, it thought it was letting the car warm up, which i could be to an extent, but if your car has cruise control it could be that, i had problems with the vaccum on the cruise control sticking on and messing with the trans, and scary shizzle like my car launching out into traffic cause it engaged or it turning on when i would come to a traffic signal, but it could be that or you need a new trans, i know of a good place that iis cheap in chicago, but PM if you are looking to get a rebuild

 

Mine was kind of doing that last week before my governor gear went out. It is easy to pull out and check it. Worth checking.
