How to remove front pump?
On a 700R-4 how do you remove the front pump. Is there anything you have to remove or disconnect internally before you pop off the pump? thanks.
Filter and lockup solenoid have to come out before the pump. There is a tool designed to pull the pump out. Just wrap a rag around the stator support and clamp a big vice grips to it, then proceed to play heman.

removing front pump
i have found that the best way to ghetto-remove the front pump is with a large gear puller, and a c-clamp. Position the gear puller to have the teeth contact (and pull) right below the splines on the stator. then, once in place, position and tighten the c-clamp on the puller, to help press the teeth onto the stator. Then, (all of this is easier with a helper) get your ratchet and tighten the puller while holding the c-clamp.
Do make sure to remove the filter and lockup solenoid first as was said already.
I would go buy the tool if I had to do it again....

If its an '87 or later, you will also have to remove the Foward Clutch Accumulator feed tube.
As for the tool, its great. When I bought the Kent Moore J-37789-A Pump Remover, it set me back about $50 which is not a wise investment if your only doing one or two.

There should have been a metal tube that pushed into the pump next to the filter and went all the way down to the auxillary valvebody. All '91 700's had this, so yours is either missing, or its not a '91. Look next to the filter hole, there will either be an open hole about the size of an eraser head, or a hole with a plug in it.

the TCC solenoid is pressed into the front pump with an o-ring seal. It is retained with two 10mm head bolts. It has an electrical connector to it.
It's installed where the X is:

I must have had a dyslexic moment while posting that last picture!
Now I get a message that my file is too big! That
picture was of my .570 boost valve/ Pressure regulator and
200-4r governor.
