Best junkyard source for a 3.73 LSD?
Best junkyard source for a 3.73 LSD?
I know the S series trucks are a pretty good bet, but which engine/tranny combo would most likely have the 3.73 limited slip?
Any particular trim levels or certain packages to look for while I'm scouting the yards?
Also, while I'm on the subject, how big of a job is it to change the speedometer gears in the tranny to work with the new gear ratio and where do I get the parts (dealer, tranny shop)? Is there anything else I need to do to make everything work correctly?
Thanks,
Tony

The reason you guys aren't getting any responses to your posts is that this subject has been beat to death here. All your questions can easily be answer by doing a search on the subject and taking the time to read the posts.
But I'll answer a few questions for you. First DO NOT use a posi out of an S10. They use gov-locks, or more commonly known as "granade locks" because of the spectacular damage they do when they blow up. Best bet is to get a zexel take out posi from SLP for $99. Better hurry though, they won't have them forever.

This posi carrier will work with 3.23, 3.42 ,and 3.73 gears. For info on how to install them, do a search on "zexel". Since you have an 1985, you will also need to use 28 spline axles. 1989 and older had 26 spline axles, and the zexel is a 28 spline unit. Look on the classified section for axles. I have a set for sale there.
Your best bet for a 3.73 rear is to find an older camaro that has a 3.73 rear in it from a wrecking yard, then swap the zexel into it. The cost of getting gears and having them set up is much more than a used rear out of a wrecking yard. Again, do a search on gears or gear installation and then you will understand why I'm saying this.
