Need quick help on backlash. . .

Does anybody know what my backlash should be on my rear end with a Aubrun limited slip unit carrier and a Richmond 3.23 gear I am totally lost on this and the guy putting it in said he needs me to find that out so he can put it in a little quicker. The rear end is the stock 10 bolt I just bought the above items to go in it to replace the 2.73 open gear and carrier.

Thanks

good rule of thumb is .005- .010. stock ten bolt calls for like .005-.009 or something.

If its a Richmond Gear like you say, then its etched into the side of the Ring Gear, and is also in the instructions that the gears come with. But at anyrate, Richmond reccomends for their gears .008" of backlash.

Well see thats my fault cause I lost all of that stuff thanks to some dumbass that tried to do it and couldnt and was just trying to make a buck, It almost got ugly when I went down to that shop 2 weeks after I took it down there and the guy told me I need to just take it somewhere else cause he is losing money working on my car. He got rid of all my parts he took off of it and threw away all my boxes and instructions which I kept together for him to do it. Has anyone else ever had that experience?? The other guy that is going to do it knows how, but I found him a little too late and he is having to go back and fix somebody elses screw up. He just told me to make sure I had the instructions or found out the backlash so he didnt have to use the ol'paper trick as he called it.

"the old paper trick" hhmmm sounds like you have found dumbass number two. have fun finding someone that can fix two dumbasses mistakes. a qualified tech wouldnt need the paper from richmond, or the boxes. factory specs will work. and a qualified tech would have access to factory specs

Well he is "Good" I know he is but I didnt want to ask him for help since he is my supervisor where I work. He just talks so much **** about his truck it sort of just makes you sick. He has $10,000 in the motor he built himself. I am just so fed up with all this BS if I knew how to do it I would. He has money out the ears and man he is so abnoxious it gives you chills just to be around him. I guess if it gets the job done I will put up with him and I know he wont charge me. He refered to the paper setting in joke form he said that was the way he used to do it when he raced at the local dirt tracks. Atleast he is a Chevy man.

Oh by the way I live in Alabama do you know how hard it is to find a qualified tech around here nobody knows how to do anything and if they do know how to do it they dont want to mess with it cause its more trouble than its worth. Well thanks for the responses when I get this done I will probably just stop fixing the car up or sell it I am sick of having this much trouble everytime I want something done to it.
