Tranny has lived it's life, time for a successor.
After 159,000 miles, my stock 700R4 is finally going bad. Now i've set out to look for the right new 700r4 for me. I've got a slightly modified 305 sittin in the car right now, but I'm going to put a 350 in there this summer, because my Ford buddies (hey, they used to be chevy, got lured to the dark side) are giving me too much **** with their cobras, lightnings that run 12's, and supercharged 5.0's. Anyways, I'm loooking got a built tranny that can handle anywhere from 375-450 HP. I've heard a lot about Pro-built, but I'm just wanting to see what else is out there and see opinions that other people have. I've got a friend that put a raptor in his '87 IROC, he loved it until he bought a '96 cobra and his dad now owns the IROC. So, any opinions or advice or help is appreciated. Thanks!

Alright, here is my opinion. I know many folks that have used this guy and I have heard nothing but praise for his product. You may want to check him out. Here is the link to his home page:

I've got 152K on my 700R4 and it;s definately time to get rid of her. This is the guy I'm going to call.

The Street/Strip sells for $1395.00 outright (no core needed), and shipping is about $125.00-$145.00, (includes 6 quarts of Pro-Fluid). The transmission comes with a one year warranty. If you have any questions feel free to call me anytime after 11am PST at 800 7763288.

Yeah, My Pro-Built street/strip has transgo shift kit, vette valves and servo, and has the over drive downshift blocked (you can go 100% throttle in 4th gear without it downshifting). The warranty is good up to 550 HP if I remember right, that just goes to show the kind of high po 700-r4 transmission he puts out. I've had mine for about a year now and I love it.

Hmm, doesn;t sound bad at all. My TV cable has a kink in it and is shot to crap right now so I think thats the cause of a lot of my up and down constant shifting at low rpm. Anyways, I may have to get me a pro-built.

Fix the TV cable first. I had a brand new (used) tranny installed in my car that they said shifted strong. I knew the TV cable was stretched but dang, it was pretty bad. I got a new one on there and it turned out to be too long, I put a spacer on it to take up the slack and just did the adjustment, now the tranny shifts great. Shifts just like it was promised too.
Now if only the new TV cable would arrive so I could change it out for the proper length cable. Yeah, the spacer fixes it, but it doesn't look good under the hood.

Thats funny you say that about the TV cable being too long. I;ve looked at alot of posts about Tv cables and talked to alot of people and many of them have had problems with the TV cable being too long. I'm wondering if there isn;t a problem with the GM specs that parts stores recieve or something to that nature.

Pro-built has a new transmission out now too... It's a "limited" just the next step up from Street/Strip good to 625 hp instead of 550hp... It's about 250 bucks more or so though.
Also might want to keep in mind since you're doing a transmission swap you could get a trans cooler, Pro-Built sales Haynes 26k for like 45 bucks and you could get a 9.5 inch stall too (smaller stall lighter weight and less stress on a transmission, so longer life).

yeah, I'm going with a cooler, but a 9.5" converter is expensive! I'm thinking about 2400 stall converter.

I got my S/S Pro-built 700 with cooler and an ACT 2400 Lockup Stall. And that's my everyday daily driver... hehe I love the stall too. I'm thinking about sending it back in and going with the 3600 stall with the new motor.

I kind of wish I would have gotten a 2800 now for my 350... It really depends on your setup. If the stall isn't custom made it's kind of a guessing match too, since most manufacters figure a sb will have a fixed rate of tq. If you're under that fixed rate it won't stall at the speed listed if your're over it, then it can stall higher that the speed listed.

I am going with a Midwest Converter (2800 stall w/2.2 STR). I have read really good thing about them. Mine was $365.

I have a new Pro-Built Limited street trans with a Yank SS 36000 converter (about 200 street miles on them.) and it's working very good.

I think I blew my tranny last night. My car revs up to about 5-6k rpm before shifting into second then I cant get it in 3rd. What do you guys suggest. Motor in sig produces close to 600 HP and I have a NX nitrous kit adjustable to 300. After a couple 100 shots at the track last night I think it did in the pretty much stock 700R4.I would like a 700R4 because my stall was 500 and it is brand new...
