pulling and replacing 700r4, HELP!
Ok, I have a big problem on my hands guys. I dropped my tranny and I'm not sure what to do. Everyone is telling me that I need to have a professionally rebuilt one put in by a professional, but I want to do it myself. Is it even economical to bother with an auto or should I just put a t56 in? I have no idea what I'm doing, but I'd love for anyone and everyone to offer ideas and prices of what I can do. I'm already hurting over the fact that it happened, but also that the car is no longer for sale (unless somebody wants a stock L98 z w/ a busted up tranny), so I can't start building my LS1 awd iroc. Please help me. Thanks.
Take that tranny, go to a tranny shop and have it rebuilt. You can then install it yourself, since you removed it. If you want the T-56 think long and hard about it, and research the hell out of it to find out what it entails. It'll cost more than having the tranny rebuilt by a reputable local shop. For guestimates, the T-56 setup will run you double what it'll cost to rebuild the 700R4. There's lots of little things to get, and do with a T-56 swap.

I'm in the process of replacing my 700R4 right now. I have it removed and am currently waiting delivery of my Pro-Built. I did some research and around here it cost as much to rebuild to back to stock as the Street/Strip 700R4 from Pro-Built cost me. If you have already removed the tranny then you have done the hard work. Just get a Pro-built and install it yourself.

The only place I know to get them is to order it directly from Dana at www.Pro-built.net. He pretty much builds them to suit your needs. The best way to remove it is one bolt at a time. Remove the torque arm, dipstick tube, oil lines and cables. Then lower remove the 6 bolts that attach the tranny to the motor. A transmission jack would be helpful but not required.
