My 1982 Z-28 has the 83mm borg-warner close ratio four speed, and the shifter mount either flexes too much to really jam the gears or it will work its way loose at the most in-opportune times.

Usually, while shifting, I can hit the clutch a little bit and shift from 1st to 2nd without any problem (an acceptable amount of gear clash), but when I go from 2nd to 3rd, the shifter feels like it is spring loaded and I have to wait for it to go into gear. The 3rd to 4th gear shift is good like the 1-2 shift.

During less vigorous shifting, the shifter does a fine job.

Does anyone have a suggestion for strengthening the shifter mount to eliminate the flexing and loosening?
I used locktite red the last time it got loose and that lasted about 8 months, but the flexing during the 2-3 shift is driving me nutso.

Replace it. Get a Hurst.
