How can i break the flexplate bolts loose?

how can i break the (6) flexplate bolts loose.

Torch? What kind?

I already broke a taiwanese 9/16 6-point socket, and my craftsman 12-point 9/16 keeps trying to strip the bolts.

Thanks
Rick

Have you tried soaking it with penetrating fluid? If not, I would soak it every few hours for a day or so and then try it again.

I wedged a pipe in the flywheel gear and that held it in place and then used a cheater bar.

flexplate bolts

Have you tried a 14mm 6pt socket? It is slightly smaller and is
less likely to slip. Now is not the time to be frugal!

6-point ½" drive IMPACT socket, a breaker bar, and a hammer.

Just before putting another socket on it heat it up just before with a map or benzomatic torch, something along those lines. It is amazing how much easier it makes loosening bolts. Trust me

The 14mm socket trick is a good one. So is the recommendation of heat.

On tight bolts, sometimes I find that tightening them a bit before removing them loosens the threads sufficiently to be able to loosen them.

I don't use Crapsman sockets.

thanks for the help guys.....after several hours of pounding i was able to get all 6 bolts off with a 1/2 impact driver, 1/2 6 point 9/16 impact socket, and 2.5lb sledge. A friend and I rotated until all bolts were finally free.

The bolts were surprisingly clean and twisted off smooth as silk....all of them.

My new McLeod flywheel is going on with new 3/4 inch bolts that should make removal easier next time.

The one thing that really seemed to help break those bolts loose was Black Sabbath. I knew it would come in handy. It really set the tone for some sledgework.

now i just have to figure out how to get that darn pilot bearing in ??????
