Torque converter stays locked

What tells the ECM to lock and unlock the converter? Mine is staying locked all the time. When I disconnect the cable from the transmission it stay unlocked (which is what I would expect). Is there a difference between the wiring for the lock up in 85 versus an 88? Could the pins be pinned different? How does the ECM determine when to lock and unlock the converter?

What tells the converter to lockup? I know whenever the brake is pressed the converter locks, but what else. According to the schematics the solenoid receives a "4th Gear Signal" that will lock the converter. Where does the this signal come from? Where does the ECM receive this signal before sending it to the TCC solenoid? I appear to be getting 12V on that line all the time. I think it should be 0V normally.

Did you get my PM? When the brake is applied, it should unlock. Disconnect "D" wire at the plug at the transmission and see what happens.

I am going to try that today. But looking at the schematics, it looks like if I unplug "D" it will never lockup except for when the brakes are pressed.

Well, I unplugged "D" and the converter stayed unlocked. I unplugged "B" and is seems to stay locked.

Re: Torque converter stays locked

Just put a new transmission and converter in my 86 Camaro Berlinetta. Converter stays locked in all gears except 1st. Any ideas?

If I press brake pedal it will unlock.

What did the transmission come out of, and did you change the wiring harness in the valvebody to match what was in your 86 originally?

Re: Torque converter stays locked

It was built for my 86 camaro. I had the same issue with the converter with the previous transmission. Guess it is a switch or possibly the ecu but have no idea.
