Got the 700R4 rebuild..WOW!

The ole' 700R4 had a bad front seal, so I figured, while it's out, better rebuild it. And I don't know exactly what the guy did, who rebuilt it, but it's pretty good!!! It doesn't shift to second, when I'm ON the throttle, until about 3-4k! And it breaks the tires loose everytime.......in the ole' LO3!!!!! I knowhe put in a Corvette Servo, and a shift kit, but I'm unsure what else. Well, just wanted to share my happiness with my Automatic

That seems a little early if you are at WOT. What is your redline? Might need to try adjusting the TV cable.

Just wondering how much it cost. My 700R-4 jsut went out of my 1989 Iroc-Z when i was manually shifting from 1-2. It has been shifting horribly since I got the car.

I had mine rebuilt for $1,000. The guy put in a Trans-go shift kit, a Vette Servo, and a external transmission cooler. I'm very pleased with the results.

you can get a rebuild/shiftkit combo (includes corvette servo) for about 220
http://www.kdsperformance.com/transhifkitd.html
then you either install it yourself, or you can shell out for someone else to do it for you

By on the throttle...I meant about half...lo. I haven't floored it yet, but I've got almost to the floor, it didn't shift till about 5K. It starts to redline at 5K, and goes till 6K. It was $1300 total..since the guy who rebuilt it, wouldn't take it out or put it in. And I needed it by Saturday.

Actually, the servo is part of the transmission. It's what engages the 2-4 band around the drum. When you upgrade to the 'Vette servo, you increase the pressure on the band, resulting in a firmer 1-2 shift. You also firm up the 3-4 shift, but usually, it's not felt as dramatically as the 1-2 shift.

I haven't had mine rebuilt yet but isn't that kinda high since he didn't take it out or put it in? I thought you could get one pulled and put back in after being rebuilt for around $900-$1000. Or am I in for a rude awakening?

Just got mine back from the tranny shop. Cost $900: Remove, Rebuild and Replace and towing. Had to replace the front pump, torque converter and flywheel. Tranny guy "fixed" a few things up. Shifts hard to second at about 4500. No shift kit per se just a few stiffer springs and other things I really didn't understand

You guys are all going to hate me. I was having a little trouble with my 700 not grabbing gears. It would slip into 2nd and then take its sweet *** time getting into third. So I called my tranny guy and told him the problem. I brought it in today to have it looked at and he pulled it apart, replaced the band, put in a corvette servo, replace just about all the o-rings, took the tranny out and put it back in, AND filled it with fluid for a whopping.........$90.00
I know you probably don't believe me, but I swear on my life. I almost **** my pants when he told me the total. Now the thing rips my goddam head off when it shifts. I love it!

90 bucks to remove the tranny, take it apart --assuming the bands are hard to get to, im not a tranny man at all--- plus parts?? i think you accidently got someones towing bill and nothing more.. perhaps your tranny mechanic smokes crack and just forgot what he did, but for 90 bucks...good *** you lucky SOB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! im thinkin about callina tranny place and see wtf they will charge to replace a front seal and my bands heh

Well i know the guy that did the work, but I wouldn't say we are good buddies or anything. You would think that I saved his life or something. I couldn't believe it when he told me. Whatever, i'm not complaining.

There is only 1 band in the 700R4. It is the main band that grabs the main drum. I know because that is what I smoked in mine. And I watched him take the thing apart. Pretty interesting S**t.

I need a rebuild too, they quoted me about $1475 to pull, rebuild, put in a 'Vette servo, shift kit, higher converter, and install. Comes with a 1 year warrenty. Is that too much?

I am friends with a guy that builds them around here...He builds some kickass transmissions...He'll build a 700-R4 for less then $400...And he sells built T-350s for about $400...He does good work!
